Kentaus “KC” Carter enters his fifth full-time season as head baseball coach at Clark Atlanta University,  In his second season he guided the Panthers to the program's most wins in a season (12).. In 2017, Panthers broke that record and by winning 13 games and finishing just one game short of qualifying for the eight-team SIAC tournament.  The 2018 the Panthers again increased their win total to 18, finishing third in the SIAC East Division and qualifying for the SIAC Tournament for the first time in school history. The 2019 the Panthers also qualified for the SIAC Tournament.

Before being hired at CAU, Carter spent three seasons (2010-2013) as assistant baseball coach at Winston-Salem State University. During his time at WSSU, Carter assisted in building the program from its infancy to becoming a powerhouse in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region.

While on the Winston-Salem State coaching staff, Carter saw the program win three straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships and three straight trips to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament, including hosting the 2013 tournament. Carter recruited several first and second All CIAA team members. In the classroom, the Rams baseball squad also won the CIAA Academic team award won by the team with the highest overall team GPA (3.12) for consecutive years 2012, 2013. Before his stint at WSSU, he served in the same capacity at Florida A&M University from 2003-2005. In 2006-07 Carter took a two-year hiatus from the collegiate coaching ranks while he served as head baseball coach at Florida A&M University Developmental Research School, where he led the “Baby Rattlers” to a 7-16 record in 2006. In 2007,Carter led his team to 14-14 record, a district championship, and a state playoff game victory for first time in school history. While serving on the coaching staff at FAMU, Carter coached third base and assisted in advanced scouting and running of practice drills. He also spent two seasons (2002-03) as a graduate assistant.

As a student-athlete at FAMU, he played two seasons where he helped lead the Rattlers to the MEAC tournament title game (1998, 2000) as a utility player, utilizing his skills in the outfield, on the mound as a reliever and serving as designated hitter. Carter was a junior college all-star at Kemper Junior College, hitting .370 in 1996. He played two seasons (1996-97) at Kemper, ranking in the Top Ten nationally in steals. He went a perfect for 26-for-26 in steals his first season at Kemper. In the summer of 2011, KC was the field manager for the Carolina Hurricanes, a member of the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League. In summer 2012, he coached the Lexington Chops, a member of the Carolina Virginia Collegiate League. In summer 2013, he managed the Mocksville Pioneers to a third-place finish in the inaugural season of All-American Collegiate Summer League.

The fiery young coach is from Decatur, Ga., and holds a bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation (2001) from FAMU, where he also earned a master’s degree in Sports Management (2002). He will receive his second master's degree in Educational Leadership from the Clark Atlanta University in the Fall 2021. He resides in Conyers, Ga., with his wife, Renita Poole, daughter, Micah, and son, Mason.
